Calculate Slope

Calculate Slope

The Calculate Slope tool creates a surface that shows the slope of the input elevation data. Slope represents the rate of change of elevation for each digital elevation model (DEM) cell.

Choose input data to calculate slope

The elevation layer from which slope will be calculated.

Specify scaling factor for elevation

Enter a z factor.

The z-factor is a scaling factor used to convert the elevation values for two purposes:

  • To convert the elevation units (such as meters or feet) to the horizontal coordinate units of the dataset, which may be feet, meters, or degrees
  • To add vertical exaggeration for visual effect

From Feet

From Meters

Result layer name

This is the name of the layer that will be created in My Content and added to the map. The default name is based on the tool name and the input layer name. If the layer already exists, you will be asked to provide another name.

Using the Save result in drop-down box, you can specify the name of a folder in My Content where the result will be saved.
